Description:
TCS230 Color Detector
Module is a tool to detect the color of the light-emitting from objects,
anti-light interference, which can detect the color of non-illuminating
objects. This color sensor is a programmable color light-to-frequency
converter, which combines configurable silicon photodiodes and a
current-to-frequency converter on a single monolithic CMOS IC. The base
of its working is an 8-lead SOIC surface-mount package with 64
photodiodes integrated on a single chip. These diodes are divided into
four types, 16 photodiodes with red filters, 16 photodiodes with green
filters, 16 photodiodes with blue filters, and the remaining 16 without
any filters, so all optical information can be transmitted by these
photodiodes. These photodiodes are cross-arranged within the chip to
minimize the unevenness of incident light radiation which results in an
increase in the accuracy of color recognition. On the other hand, 16
photodiodes of the same color are connected in parallel and evenly
distributed. In the diode array, the positional error of the color can
be eliminated. Photodiodes are 120 µm x 120 µm in size and are 144-µm
centers.
The full-scale output frequency of this color sensor can be
scaled by one of three preset values via two control input pins. In
operation, the required filters are dynamically selected by two
programmable pins. The sensor can produce a typical output frequency
ranges from 2 Hz to 500 kHz. Users can also select 100%, 20%, or 2%
output scaling factor or power-down mode via two programmable pins. The
output scaling factor allows the sensor's output to adapt to different
measurement ranges and improves its adaptability. For example, when
using a low-speed frequency counter, a small scaling value can be
selected to match the output frequency of the TCS230 to the counter.
