AC-DC converters are electrical circuits that transform alternating current (AC) input into direct current (DC) output. They are used in power electronic applications where the power input a 50 Hz or 60 Hz sine-wave AC voltage that requires power conversion for a DC output.
The HLK-PM01 is a small size low-cost AC to DC converter which can take in 110V/220V AC and give 5V 3W output.
The HLKPM01 is commonly used in places where a microcontroller circuit has to be powered directly from AC mains. Most digital circuits operate at a voltage of 5V, this module can convert the AC voltage with an efficiency of 70%. The module also meets the UL, CE requirements, hence, it can be used in commercial products and should be free from ripple and noise.
However, the module can provide only a maximum of 600mA as continuous current, so if your circuit requires anything more than that then consider the HLK-5M05 module which can source up to 1A.
The module also has built-in short circuit protection and over current protection. But, still, you might consider adding some external protection circuits based on your Power regulation and application. Commonly a fuse and a MOV are used on the input side to protect the module from voltage and current spikes.
