این دیاگ از طریق USB به کامپیوتر متصل و با استفاده از درگاه استاندارد OBDII به کلیه خودروها متصل می شود. این اسکنر OBD2 از پروتکل های is0 9141, kwp200, j1850, can bus پشتیبانی می کند.
با استفاده از رابط و اسکنر OBD2 و اتصال آن به ECU میتوان تمام اطلاعات موتور مانند تعداد دور، سرعت موتور، دمای آب، میزان مصرف سوخت، وضعیت موتور، شتاب گیری موتور را به دست آورد. این دستگاه قابلیت پاک کردن کدهای خطا را دارد و می تواند چراغ چک موتور را خاموش کند.
توجه: استفاده و کاربری این ماژول وابسته به نوع خودرو(داخلی و خارجی) نمی باشد بلکه قبل از خرید باید از تطابق ECU ماشین با چیپ ELM327، اطمینان حاصل کنید.

ELM327 is the latest PC-based OBD2 universal automotive diagnostic test tool. It supports all OBD-II self-diagnostic systems and communication protocol detection compatible with them. ELM327 is a USB interface, which is connected to the USB interface of a laptop computer through the RS232 conversion protocol.
ELM327 is one of a family of OBD translators from ELM Electronics. Other variants implement only a subset of the OBD protocols.
This product supports models that use OBD-Ⅱ protocol (including VPW, PWM, ISO, KWP 2000, CAN protocol) produced after 1996. The product can be connected to a laptop or desktop computer to read the fault code and know the meaning of the fault code, clear the fault code of the car, display the data stream of the sensor (such as speed, water temperature, etc.).
