Descriptions:
StepStick Protector is an additional module for stepper motor drivers. It is compatible with StepStick and Pololu A4988 stepper motor drivers. This protection board has freewheeling diodes for the motor output, the Freewheeling / Flyback diode is a diode that is connected between the driver outputs and the driver power input pins to prevent high voltages between the pins.
This module also protects against induced voltages when the driver is not powered.
The protection module has an additional diode between the logic supply voltage (VIO) and the motor supply voltage (VM). So whenever the motor supply voltage (VM) is not present, it cannot activate the motor outputs because the current is drawn from the VIO logic supply. Pinot and internal connections of Protector Board are shown in the picture below. As you can see in the diagram, a total of 8 diodes are connected between the motor outputs and one diode between VM and VIO to protect the stepper motor and driver module from high voltage.
