درگاه سریال (Serial) یک درگاه استاندارد برای انتقال داده بین کامپیوتر و دستگاه‌های (Devices) دیگر است و اجازه اتصال آن‌ها به کامپیوتر را می‌دهد. منظور از کلمه سریال (Serial) در این درگاه به این معناست تمام بیت‌ها یکی پس از دیگری و به صورت ترتیبی فقط از طریق یک پین ارسال می‌شوند. درگاه سریال یا پورت COM مخفف Communications Port به معنای ارتباطات می باشد و به آن RS-232 Port گفته می شود. یکی دیگر از رایج ترین کاربردهای درگاه پورت سریال راه اندازی شبکه‌ها برای انتقال داده با حجم زیاد است.

Description:
A serial port is a standard port for transferring data between a computer and other devices and allows them to be connected to the computer. The word "serial" in this port means that all bits are sent one after the other and sequentially through only one pin. Serial port or COM port stands for Communications Port and it is called RS-232 Port. New motherboards often lack a serial port and this interface can add this port to the motherboard.
